KOREA: LEGAL VICTORY FOR MARRIOTT WORKERS: DEMAND THEY BE REINSTATED NOW:
Since January 1st of 2006 Korean workers at the Marriott Renaissance Hotel in Seoul, Korea have been on strike and picketing said premises demanding to be reinstated as paid employees. The strike began when the hotel engaged in a phony outsourcing scheme whereby the wages paid to its employees dropped by 60%. When the Renaissance Labour Union took legal action the workers were fired. On July 18th the Seoul Central District Court determined that the so-called outsourcing was illegal and ordered the hotel to reinstate the workers. This still has not been done. The union representing the workers has called for international solidarity asking that management respect the decision of the court, abandon appeal efforts and reinstate the workers now.
